Tank or Tankless: Which Is Right for Your Home?
A standard 40 or 50 gallon tank costs less up front and is the simplest swap if your current unit is a tank. It is a good fit for most families with typical hot water use.
A tankless heater heats water only when you need it, so it does not run out during back-to-back showers and it takes up much less space. The tradeoffs are a higher installation cost and, in many homes, a larger gas line and new venting. Tankless units also need a yearly flush, especially with the hard water common in parts of Central Jersey. We will look at your gas supply, venting, and household size and tell you honestly which option makes sense.
Signs Your Water Heater Needs Replacing
Rusty water, rumbling or popping noises, water pooling around the base, and hot water that runs out faster than it used to are all warning signs. A tank that is leaking from the body cannot be repaired. Most tank units in New Jersey last 8 to 12 years, so if yours is in that range and acting up, replacement is usually the better use of your money.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does it cost to replace a water heater in NJ?
The price depends on the size, gas or electric, tank or tankless, and what needs to be brought up to code, such as venting or an expansion tank. We give a free written estimate before any work starts.
What is the average lifespan of a water heater?
Tank water heaters usually last 8 to 12 years. Tankless units often last 15 to 20 years with regular descaling.
What are the downsides of a tankless water heater?
A higher upfront cost, possible gas line and venting upgrades, and yearly maintenance to prevent scale buildup. Hot water can also take a few extra seconds to reach the tap.
Do I need a permit to replace a water heater in NJ?
Yes. Most New Jersey towns require a plumbing permit and inspection for a water heater replacement. As a licensed plumber (NJ #13458), we can take care of the permit and inspection for you.

What Our Customers Say
Real reviews from our customers on Google, Angi, and Yelp
4 out of 5 stars"Contrary to some of the big brand plumbing agencies that are spread throughout NJ and charge big $$$ for their services, Titan seems to be a smaller individually run business that did the same work with satisfactory results at a considerably lower cost. They took the effort to answer all the questions and concerns without being pushy."
