Preventing Frozen Pipes in New Jersey Winters
Pipes on outside walls, in crawl spaces, and in unheated garages are the ones that freeze. Before the first hard freeze, disconnect garden hoses and shut off and drain outdoor spigots from the inside valve. On the coldest nights, open the cabinet doors under sinks on outside walls and let a faucet drip.
If a pipe has frozen, open the faucet it feeds and warm the pipe slowly with a hair dryer or space heater. Never use a torch. If the pipe has already split, close the main shut-off and call us. We handle burst pipe repairs around the clock.
Older Homes and Galvanized Pipes
Many homes in Union, Essex, and Middlesex counties still have galvanized steel water lines from the 1950s and earlier. These pipes rust from the inside, which causes low water pressure, brown water, and leaks at the threads. Replacing them with copper or PEX restores pressure and removes a common source of leaks.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I shut off water to stop a burst pipe?
Find the main shut-off valve, usually in the basement on the wall facing the street where the water line enters. Turn it clockwise until it stops, then open a faucet on the lowest floor to drain the pressure and call us.
Will frozen pipes unfreeze on their own?
Sometimes, once temperatures rise, but waiting is risky. Ice expands and can split the pipe, and the leak often starts only when it thaws. It is better to thaw it carefully or call a plumber.
What pipe material do you use for replacements?
It depends on where the pipe runs and what it carries. We use copper, PEX, CPVC, and PVC according to the application and local code, and we explain the options before we start.
Do you replace galvanized pipes in older homes?
Yes. We assess the existing plumbing and replace galvanized lines with copper or PEX, either all at once or in stages to fit your budget.

What Our Customers Say
Real reviews from our customers on Google, Angi, and Yelp
4 out of 5 stars"Contrary to some of the big brand plumbing agencies that are spread throughout NJ and charge big $$$ for their services, Titan seems to be a smaller individually run business that did the same work with satisfactory results at a considerably lower cost. They took the effort to answer all the questions and concerns without being pushy."
