Snaking vs. Hydro Jetting
A drain snake (or cable machine) cuts through a clog and opens the line. It is quick and it works well for hair, wipes, and most single blockages. The downside is that it leaves grease and scale stuck to the pipe walls, so the clog can come back.
Hydro jetting sends high-pressure water through the line and scours the inside of the pipe. It is the better choice for restaurant grease lines, long sewer runs, and roots that keep growing back. Before we jet an older cast iron or clay sewer line, we check it with a camera first, because a pipe that is already cracked needs a repair, not more pressure.
Why Store-Bought Drain Cleaner Is a Bad Idea
Chemical drain openers generate heat and can soften PVC joints and eat away at older metal pipes. They also rarely clear the real blockage, and they make the job more dangerous for whoever has to open the line afterward. A plunger or a hand snake is fine for a simple sink clog. If that does not work, call a plumber.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do plumbers clean out drains?
For most clogs we use a motorized drain snake sized to the pipe. For heavy grease, scale, or roots we use hydro jetting, which washes the pipe walls clean. When a drain keeps clogging, we add a camera inspection to find the cause.
How do I know if the clog is in my main sewer line?
If more than one fixture backs up at once, or water comes up in the tub or basement floor drain when you flush a toilet, the problem is usually in the main line rather than a single drain.
Is hydro jetting safe for older pipes?
Usually, yes, but we check the pipe condition with a camera first. Older cast iron and clay lines, common in New Jersey homes built before the 1970s, sometimes need a repair before they can be jetted.
How often should drains be professionally cleaned?
Most homes do fine with cleaning every one to two years, or only when a problem shows up. Busy kitchens, restaurants, and homes with large trees near the sewer line benefit from regular maintenance.

What Our Customers Say
Real reviews from our customers on Google, Angi, and Yelp
4 out of 5 stars"Contrary to some of the big brand plumbing agencies that are spread throughout NJ and charge big $$$ for their services, Titan seems to be a smaller individually run business that did the same work with satisfactory results at a considerably lower cost. They took the effort to answer all the questions and concerns without being pushy."
